In order to raise awareness among our students regarding the proper and safe management of healthcare waste in healthcare institutions such as hospitals, clinics, and laboratories where they will work in the future, a Training on Healthcare Waste Management was organized. Within the scope of the training, the types of healthcare waste, segregation of waste at the source, disposal into appropriate containers with designated colors and specifications, temporary storage, disposal procedures, and delivery to authorized units were addressed in detail.
Furthermore, during the training, emphasis was placed on the potential long-term adverse effects that may arise when healthcare waste is disposed of inappropriately into the environment, and the importance of proper waste management in protecting human health and the ecosystem was highlighted. Students were informed that healthcare waste management should be carried out not only within the framework of legal obligations but also with a strong sense of professional ethics and social responsibility.
