ABD’de üniversite öğrencilerinin Gazze’de yaşanan insanlık dramına karşı gösterdikleri barışçıl protestoların güvenlik güçlerince şiddet kullanılarak engellendiğine, üniversite yönetimlerinin protestoları durdurmak için uzaktan eğitime geçtiğine şahit oluyor, yaşananlardan derin bir üzüntü duyuyoruz.
Barışçıl olarak seslerini duyurmak için bir araya gelen üniversite öğrencilerini susturmak, tehdit etmek ya da başka bir şekilde sindirmek için atılan her adım insan haklarının ihlalidir. Üniversite öğrencilerinin barışçıl gösterilerine karşı insan hakları, akademik özgürlük ve ifade hürriyetini yok saymaya yönelik bu engelleme, şiddet ve gözaltı uygulamaları, Gazze’de yaşanan insani krize suç ortaklığının son noktasını oluşturmaktadır.
Gazze, insanlığın ortak problemi ve acısı haline gelmiştir. Bu acıya karşı cesaretle seslerini yükselten dünyadaki tüm akademik kurumları, akademisyenleri ve öğrencileri tebrik ediyor, bu barışçıl protestoların ayak izlerini takip edecek diğer akademik kurumları da tepkilerini cesaretle göstermeye davet ediyor, engelleme gayretinde bulunanları şiddetle kınıyoruz.
İnanıyoruz ki insanlığın ortak vicdanı bu süreçte de galip gelecektir.
We are deeply dismayed to learn of the violent suppression of peaceful protests by university students in USA against the ongoing humanitarian tragedy in Gaza. The reported use of force by security forces and the university administration's decision to transition to remote learning in an attempt to curtail these protests are deeply concerning.
Any effort to silence, threaten, or intimidate university students exercising their fundamental right of peaceful assembly constitutes a clear violation of human rights. The acts of obstruction, violence, and detention directed at peaceful student demonstrations are a blatant disregard for human rights, academic freedom, and the freedom of expression. Such actions represent the ultimate act of complicity in the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
The tragedy in Gaza has become a shared burden on humanity. We commend all academic institutions, academics, and students around the world who have courageously spoken out against this suffering. We urge other institutions of higher education to follow this example and express their strong opposition in a peaceful manner. We stand in resolute condemnation of those who seek to silence such vital voices.
We have unwavering faith that the collective conscience of humanity will ultimately prevail in the face of this crisis.
