YÖK President Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar stated that they presented the Barrier-Free University Awards to provide the necessary adaptations, infrastructure, and equipment to support the participation of disabled students in social and cultural activities as well as education and training, and to encourage the creation of a barrier-free ecosystem at universities. He said, “We are also pleased to see the work carried out by our higher education institutions to ensure the full, effective, and equal participation of individuals with disabilities in higher education on the occasion of these awards.” "As the Council of Higher Education, we prioritize access to higher education for all our students. We strive to develop encouraging studies and projects to provide students with disabilities with a barrier-free learning environment and to encourage greater participation in social and cultural activities. Our universities establish coordinators within their institutions to conduct accessibility initiatives throughout the year. While significant progress has been made in many universities regarding accessibility, we need to make greater efforts to ensure that education and program content are accessible to students with diverse disabilities," he said.
