Technical Survey Trip to the Ancient City of Sagalassos

On May 13, 2026, a technical field trip was conducted to the ancient city of Sagalassos in Burdur for 4th-year students of our Faculty's Tourism Guiding Department. Led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hasan Ali Erdoğan, the instructor of the Ancient Cities of Anatolia course, the students had the opportunity to examine important archaeological structures from the Hellenistic, Roman, and Byzantine periods, such as the Antonine Fountain, Roman Baths, Neon Library, Heroon, Theater, and city agoras, on-site. This provided them with the chance to develop their storytelling techniques, route management, and site interpretation skills in cultural heritage areas. Academic evaluations were conducted, particularly on Roman-era urban planning, water engineering, monumental architecture, and ancient life culture. Thanks to these applied field studies, a crucial part of Tourism Guiding education, students reinforced their theoretical knowledge while gaining professional experience. In line with its applied education approach, our Faculty continues to train well-equipped individuals for the sector by supporting its students not only in the classroom but also through technical field trips and studies.
