OUR UNIVERSITY AIMS AT QUALITY IN EDUCATION
Our university established a commission to increase quality in education. The commission, chaired by Prof. Dr. Saim AÇIKGÖZOĞLU, a faculty member of our university's Faculty of Medicine, first organized the "Quality in Education Workshop". The first part of the workshop, which was held in two sessions, was attended by 39 faculty members working at the university as Sub-Group Commissions. The Sub-group commissions, divided into four groups, started their work at 09:00 in the morning. Bilkent University Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Arif Bülent Özgüler first made a presentation titled "Curriculum Accreditation and MÜDEK Application". After the presentation, the work of the Sub-group commissions began. In the work that lasted until noon, the commissions discussed the topics of Quality in the Learning and Teaching Process, Measurement and Evaluation in Education and Training, Legislation in Education and Training, and Infrastructure in Education and Training.
THE AIM IS TO RAISE QUALITY INDIVIDUALS
In the second part of the workshop, with the participation of the university academic staff, the presentations of the reports of the studies conducted by the subgroups were made in the Faculty of Education Erol Güngör conference hall. Speaking before the presentation of the reports, Rector Prof. Dr. Muzaffer Şeker said that he thought that the song “Come in September” by Artist Alpay brought the beginning of Education to the agenda. Şeker stated that they obtained new capital every September; “We take, train, teach and graduate the young people who are sent to us or who choose us for a certain period. We guide these friends to serve our country and humanity well. Some of them stay with us and continue to work as academics who will replace us in the next period. We experience ups and downs during these periods. We discuss among ourselves whether the capital given to us is sometimes good and sometimes bad, but the easiest part of this job is to blame the capital at hand and discuss the quality of the student. It is our duty to sit down and discuss every period what we need to do to contribute to this quality and increase the quality, how we can increase the quality in education with a method, how we can make our outputs and products higher quality. We want to do this properly, learn from it and carry this knowledge to the coming years with new models and methods. Life at the university, academic perspective, is different every period. Fashions, different discourses and new developments brought about by information technology change very quickly. We try to adapt to these. We benefit from some of them, and see that some of them are wrong practices. "We will hold such meetings and workshops at certain periods from now on in order to analyze and evaluate this process together and to pull ourselves together," he said.
The Commission Chairman Prof. Dr. Saim Açıkgözoğlu, who evaluated the workshop, said the following: Upon the request of our Rector Prof. Dr. Muzaffer Şeker Bey, we established a commission to evaluate the quality of education at our university and develop suggestions. This commission first organized the “Quality in Education Workshop”. Our university, which is in a new structure with its old and new faculties, also attaches importance to quality in education. In addition to its establishment studies, the goal of our university, which carries out various studies to increase the quality of education, is to identify the problems and solutions in the field of education and training together with our stakeholders in this field, to increase the quality of education and to contribute to the training of qualified and equipped individuals to the maximum extent. In the following process, the necessary studies will be initiated and continued to solve the problems identified in the workshop report. Our commission will continue the necessary studies for the quality of our university’s education to be of world-wide quality and will carry out many similar studies in the field of quality in education. I hope that this study will be an example for other universities. I would like to thank everyone who took part in the commission and contributed.
