The KONÜDAM Experimental Medicine Application and Research Center was established in 1997 by Haşim Bayram, the Chairman of the Board of Kombassan Holding. The Center was constructed within the Faculty of Medicine campus as a four-story main building accompanied by an additional annex building, both fully equipped upon completion.
As stated in the Official Gazette dated November 4, 1997 (No. 23160), the objectives and duties of the Center are as follows: to support projects, original research, and patent applications aimed at advancing scientific progress in Türkiye by adopting and further developing research, methodologies, and outcomes in the fields of health and natural sciences worldwide; to conduct and support scientific studies for environmental protection; to facilitate communication, knowledge exchange, and collaboration among scientific personnel; and to support, publish, and reward ongoing research activities. Serving as a notable example of collaboration between the private sector and academia in the field of scientific research and development, the Center carries out the activities defined in its regulations in order to achieve these objectives.
Currently, the Center operates within its four-story main building and annex, and holds a distinguished position among similar research centers in Türkiye. In addition to breeding and maintaining laboratory animals—namely mice, rats, and rabbits—for use in experimental medical research, the Center also provides services through its micro- and macro-surgical operating rooms. Necessary infrastructure is provided to support research activities for all academic units within the university, as well as for external researchers. Furthermore, Swiss strain mice, Wistar Albino rats, and New Zealand rabbits are supplied to researchers. The Center employs one veterinarian, one biologist, two service staff, and two animal care personnel.
In accordance with the Regulation published in the Official Gazette dated May 16, 2004 (No. 25464), titled “Regulation on the Protection of Experimental Animals Used for Scientific Purposes and the Establishment, Operation, Inspection, Procedures, and Principles of Breeding Facilities and Laboratories Conducting Animal Experiments,” and its implementation directive, the Center was re-equipped. The operational license of the Center was approved on August 27, 2007, by the General Directorate of Protection and Control of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye.
The Center was affiliated with Konya University, which was established under Law No. 6005 on July 14, 2010, and published in the Official Gazette dated July 21, 2010 (No. 27648). Subsequently, with the enactment of Article 20 of Law No. 6287, published in the Official Gazette dated April 11, 2012 (No. 28261), the name of the university was changed to Necmettin Erbakan University. Following this, by the decision of the Council of Higher Education dated February 6, 2013 (Law No. 5983), the name of the Center was changed to Kombassan Experimental Medicine Research and Application Center. Finally, pursuant to Law No. 28372 published in the Official Gazette dated August 2, 2012, the Center was renamed “Necmettin Erbakan University KONÜDAM Experimental Medicine Application and Research Center.
