The Department of Linguistics was established in 2010. The department consists of two main branches: General Linguistics and Applied Linguistics. The Department of Linguistics aims to train qualified linguists who approach language from a scientific perspective, conduct both theoretical and applied research, are aware of the interaction between language and thought, and serve various sectors of society by using Turkish at an effective level and English at an advanced level thanks to their education. The aim of the Linguistics Department is to train productive and innovative individuals who possess high-level thinking skills and adhere to scientific, ethical, and universal values, as well as to contribute to the national and international academic community through multifaceted scientific research. The field of study of the Linguistics Department is quite broad and comprehensive. The nature of language, how it functions, and how general characteristics and differences between languages are encoded are among the department's areas of study. Additionally, the relationship between language, society, and culture, the acquisition of one's native language, and the learning and use of other languages are also among the department's areas of study.
