The Department of Sociology was established in 2011. The Department consists of 4 (four) main branches of science, namely General Sociology and Methodology, Sociology of Institutions, Social Structure and Change, and Applied Sociology. The Department of Sociology aims to educate individuals who have detailed and analytical knowledge about the basic theoretical and methodological issues and problems of sociological knowledge, who have the ability to conduct independent, original and new research that triggers new perspectives on current issues of sociology, who can develop policy proposals for the solution of social problems, who can assume social and ethical responsibility for the advancement of scientific knowledge and understanding, the provision of human welfare and the provision of social development. The aim of the Department of Sociology is to educate students and academicians who can think quickly, have strategic foresight, are solution-oriented, and demonstrate the flexibility and adaptability required by competitive conditions in the information age, where information is rapidly produced, disseminated and consumed; and to pioneer the scientific research that our country needs in the field of sociology. The field of study of the Department of Sociology is to produce scientific knowledge, disseminate this knowledge, share it with the society and contribute to the awareness of the society. In this context, an educational program is offered to train sociologists who have basic undergraduate knowledge in sociology, who can successfully apply scientific thought and scientific methods in analyzing events, who can work with an interdisciplinary perspective, who understand and explain the social realities of Turkey, who have developed social responsibility, and who do not break away from the realities of the country and the world.
