Special Education Department

The department was established in the 2000–2001 academic year and consists of three divisions: Education of Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities, Education of Autism Spectrum Disorder, and Education of Gifted and Talented Students. It initially began its educational activities with 30 students.

Today, the department has hundreds of students at undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels, and its academic staff includes faculty members with various academic titles. The department aims to train qualified teachers and academics in the field of special education. With regulatory changes in Türkiye, different special education teaching programs were unified, and since the 2016–2017 academic year, a single undergraduate program titled “Special Education Teaching” has been implemented.

The department has obtained accreditation by maintaining its educational quality and continues to hold this status. The accreditation process is conducted by the relevant coordinator, and the program successfully meets the established standards.
