City and Regional Planning Department

The objective of the undergraduate program in the Department of City and Regional Planning is to cultivate visionary graduates who possess a heightened sensitivity to design, the ability to perceive and interpret rapidly evolving technological, scientific, social, economic, and managerial organizational frameworks influenced by globalization, and a robust foundation in applied and advanced research knowledge, skills, and competencies within the field of urban and regional planning. The program aims to nurture lifelong learners committed to professional growth, research, and development, who actively engage with national and international advancements in the discipline while upholding the values of public benefit, equity, and professional ethics in all circumstances.

Situated at the intersection of multiple disciplines, city and regional planning requires an interdisciplinary synthesis that harmonizes concepts from the social sciences, natural sciences, and urban planning and design theories. This synthesis is essential for creating healthier, more inclusive, and more livable urban spaces. Consequently, the Department’s curriculum combines theoretical courses with studio-based learning, integrating insights from diverse fields such as Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Engineering, Economics, Social Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences, Geography, Public Relations, Education, Law, Information Science, Psychology, Sociology, and Quantitative Techniques.

Theoretical courses provide foundational knowledge to support studio work, while studios focus on teaching research, analysis, and planning techniques tailored to varying scales—from urban fragments and cities to metropolitan areas and regions—depending on the academic year. Through these studios, students produce comprehensive plans, fostering their ability to collaborate in team environments, evaluate societal developments, and balance the representation of diverse social groups central to the planning process. A key goal of the program is to develop individuals who are adaptive, continuously learning, and capable of contributing to equitable and sustainable urban futures.
