Department of Biosystems Engineering

About Us

Biosystems engineering is an engineering discipline in which engineering sciences are comprehensively integrated with biology, environmental and agricultural sciences. A biosystem engineer is a systems engineer. The systems engineer deals with the analysis, design and evaluation of systems realized by nature and man. The biosystems engineer is trained in biologically based systems and this training is based on equipment (tools and machines), materials, processes and the human dimension. The basic purpose of biosystems engineering is to provide engineering education in the fields of automation, information technologies, smart agriculture, precision agriculture, power and energy in agriculture, post-harvest processes, agricultural structures and environment, animal production technologies, soil and water, and rural development. While providing engineering education under the Biosystems Engineering program, the following learning outcomes are envisioned;
  • Students take adequate mathematics and basic science courses,
  • Taking basic engineering courses,
  • Project selection that will direct students to research and analytical thinking,
  • Directing students to use computer and information technologies related to their subjects from the first year,
  • Carrying out projects, laboratories and workshops emphasizing the importance of group work and learning together, gaining design skills and experience through applied studies,
  • Making graduation theses and laboratory studies for the definition and detailing of problems and developing possible solutions according to various knowledge bases, including project design,
  • To provide students with the ability to access information, compile information and present it in front of a community by presenting seminars on various subjects in the courses.

The departments (expertise) are grouped under four main headings, taking into account the current conditions in our country and similar study subjects that existed before, even though there are slightly more applications in the world:

  • Land and Water Resources
  • Agricultural Energy Systems
  • Agricultural Machinery Systems
  • Agricultural Structures
