Professor Birol MERCAN
Birol Mercan was born in Karaman in 1968. He graduated from Selçuk University, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences in 1992. He received his MA degree in Economics, from Selçuk University, Institute of Social Sciences, on a thesis titled “Historical Bases of Liberal Economy Policies in Turkey (1839-1980)” (1996) and received his PhD degree from the same department on a thesis titled “Learning Process in Industrial Groups and the Establishment of Sectoral Structure: The Case of Karaman” (2004). In 1999, he spent nine months in Katholische Universität Eichstätt, Germany, for research and language learning purposes. He worked at S.Ü. Karaman Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences (1995-2006) and Karamanoğlu Mehmet Bey University, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Department of Economics (2006-2011). Since 2011, he has been a faculty member at Necmettin Erbakan University, Faculty of Political Science, Department of Economics, and received his associate professor degree in 2012. His research interests are focused on liberalism, competition, clustering, learning regions, social capital, and innovation.
