Department of History Education

About Department

The foundations of History Education Program goes back to the Department of Social Studies Teaching at the Selcuk Institute of Education, which was opened in 1962 under the Ministry of National Education. In the 1978-1979 academic year, it was named as Geography-History Teaching, Selcuk School of Teacher Training. Teacher Training School was transformed into a faculty in 1982 and became the Faculty of Education at Selcuk University. Thus, our program started education as the History Teaching Program within the Department of Social Studies Education, and then became the Department of History Education in 1993. After the restructuring of the Education faculties in 1997, it was reformed into the History Education Program within the Secondary Education Department of Social Studies Education. The education period was increased to 5 years in the 1998-1999 academic year. Selçuk University Faculty of Education was renamed as “Ahmet Keleşoğlu Faculty of Education” in 2010 and the affiliated within "Konya University" in 2011. The university itself was renamed as "Necmettin Erbakan University" in 2012. The education period of our program was reduced to 4 years in the 2014-2015 academic year and in addition, the name of the department became “the Department of Turkish and Social Sciences Education”.  Our program offers master’s degree as well since 1989. The language of education in both bachelor and master’s degree is Turkish.
