About Us

Our department was opened in 2000-2001 and consists of the Department of Special Education, the Department of Education of Autism Spectrum Disorder and the Department of Gifted/Talented. Our department aims to train the most qualified special education teachers that Turkey needs in the field of Special Education and academics who will serve in this field and carry out scientific studies. With the regulation made by the Board of Education in 2014 in the fields of teaching, the graduates of Education of the Intellectually Disabled, education of the children with hearing and/or visual impairment began to be appointed as "Special Education Teachers". In 2015, it was decided to combine the undergraduate education given separately as Teaching for the Intellectually Disabled, the Hearing Impaired, the Visually Impaired and the Gifted/Talented by the Council of Higher Education and to create a new and single undergraduate program under the name of "Teaching with Special Educational Needs". Therefore, in the 2016-2017 academic year, the department of teaching children with special educational needs received its first students.
